Crockett-Doodle-Doo (1960)
Crockett-Doodle-Doo Review
Crockett-Doodle-Doo is a 1960 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a fun entry.
In this short, Foghorn Leghorn decides to take an egghead genius chick out to the woods to distract him from his long-haired atomic science books and teach him about such practical things as scouting and woodcraft, but finds that the kid is more knowledgeable than he is in these matters. Although hardly hilarious and feeling repetitive in the types of gags used throughout, this cartoon worked nonetheless due to Foghorn’s witty lines of dialogue.
He is so funny here, especially his priceless reactions at the kid’s vast knowledge. The two share a great dynamic. The movie is at its best in the first half whereas the second one was repetitious. The animation is lovely as always and the dialogue is terrific, though the scenarios could have been more diverse.
Crockett-Doodle-Doo lacked diversity in its gags, but the animation is great and the concept itself was excellent.
