Crazy Town (1932)
Crazy Town is a 1932 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.
Betty Boop and Bimbo take a wild streetcar ride to Crazy Town, where birds swim, fish fly, and everything else reverses normal behavior. This is one of the craziest and most original shorts in this series, one that showcased so much potential but also strong execution of its brilliant ideas. More entries should have been this manic and creative. It’s a shame that this one wasn’t longer as it felt a bit rushed at the end of the day, especially in its ending.
Crazy Town surely is crazy. My highlights include that barbershop sequence where bald men got to experience their hair grow back and the beauty parlor where women exchanged their heads for prettier ones. Bimbo and Betty were too passive in this installment, but the animation is phenomenal, the world building is superb and the score is great. It’s such a fun and creative short that flies by and is still very original to this date.
