Commando Duck Review

Commando Duck Review

Commando Duck is a 1944 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is such a weak cartoon.

Donald is ordered to destroy a Japanese airfield in what is the eleventh and last WWII-themed short in the series. And good riddance for that! While this isn’t the worst of these shorts, it’s one of the weakest for sure. The animation is fantastic. It has polished aesthetic and colors to it. The score is also quite strong.

With that being said, the plot is very lackluster. Yes, Donald getting to be the hero for once was an interesting wrinkle to the usual formula. But the movie in its seriousness and epic tone failed to engage me with humor that was lacking and memorable Donald scenes that were also almost non-existent. These movies are at their best when they are utilizing his annoyance at something, so this movie having none of that suffered as a result.

Commando Duck looks and sounds great, but it’s too serious and dramatic for this particular series.

My Rating – 3.4
