It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown
It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown is a 1969 animated television special and the sixth in the Peanuts series. It is unfortunately one of the weaker Peanuts specials.
Charlie Brown and Linus get an assignment to write about their summer activities and they reminisce on their time spent in the camp where the boys competed against the girls in a variety of games and always lost. I was incredibly disappointed in this special as the story was just weaker than usual and it was slower and pretty uneventful and even repetitive. I just wanted more from it.
But it still has its strengths mainly the third act which is awesome. I loved the fight between Snoopy and Lucy and the two are the best realized characters here along with Charlie Brown and Linus who get excellent beginning and superb ending with a couple of very funny lines. There is humor here and it is pretty good, but still lacking. And the story was cozy and charming as usual, but still not as sophisticated as I’ve come to expect from the Peanuts brand. It is definitely one of the weaker entries, but the humor and a couple of great character moments along with the great ending make it worth a watch.
