Buddy’s Beer Garden (1933)
Buddy’s Beer Garden Review
Buddy’s Beer Garden is a 1933 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty solid, entertaining short.
The setting is certainly far from original, but is still surprisingly well utilized. I loved that it was filled with many gags and action scenes as most were a lot of fun. I thought that the film was certainly overlong, unoriginal and never truly hilarious, but it was still overall very satisfying.
Cookie wasn’t here a lot unfortunately, but the dog is well utilized, that brute is memorable and Buddy is quite likable here. Of the highlights, I loved the entire last sequence. Yes, Mae West being parodied once again definitely felt repetitive, but it was still very amusing and I loved that she turned out to be Buddy cross-dressing. That was a great way to end the cartoon. I also really liked its animation and some of the visual gags concerning beer serving were quite inventive.
Buddy’s Beer Garden isn’t original, but it is pretty solid nonetheless with some great scenes and a good use of Buddy.
