Brother Brat (1944)
Brother Brat Review
Brother Brat is a 1944 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is quite a solid cartoon.
I really liked this short despite it being way too familiar in its basic plot about our protagonist having troubles babysitting a brat. So Porky is left with a brat whose mother has to participate in World War II (in a rare war reference that really worked) and leaves him with a book about child psychology. When it doesn’t work, she comes back and shows him how it’s done – by spanking him with said book.
Yes, that ending was hilarious and the best as well as the funniest scene in the movie. The middle parts had their typically weak, forgettable action, but the beginning and ending are both very strong. It’s a shame that the animation isn’t better. Porky himself is strong here and that woman is also a lot of fun. The baby, though, is uninspired.
Brother Brat is familiar in plot, but with a terrific, funny ending and solid characters.
