BoJack Horseman Season 6 Review
The sixth season of BoJack Horseman is such a strong conclusion to this memorable show with a particularly potent finale.

“I think there are people that help you
become the person that you end up being,
and you can be grateful for them even if
they were never meant to be in your life forever“

A Horse Walks into a Rehab is a very strong opening episode that sets the tone for the somber, introspective approach to this final season so well. It promises to the audience a reconciliation and a newfound hope for the protagonist. The New Client is a messy episode that is frantic in pace and editing, but that was also a point. That final sequence where Princess Carolyn grapples with the restraints of motherhood was so moving.
Feel-Good Story isn’t all that great of an episode, but it does explore this new relationship between Diane and Guy. I find him to be a good fit for Diane, and a very nice guy. Their relationship was very well developed throughout this season, and it was interesting seeing Diane in a very different environment than L.A.
Surprise! is by far one of the greatest episodes of this season, and one of the most purely entertaining in a downer, overly serious season as a whole. This one is a situational sitcom comedy stupendously executed, and freakishly fun throughout. I loved Pickles in this season, she became such a funny, crazy character, and the pact that the two make that she should sleep with as many men as possible to get back at him for having cheated on her, that was hilarious.

A Little Uneven, Is All is a fine, but not that interesting transitional episode. The Kidney Stays in the Picture did give finally something meaningful for Todd to do, and the introduction of his parents and his strained relationship with them was a welcome development, but still this character to me remains the most uninteresting and overrated on the show.
The Face of Depression is very funny in the Mr. Peanutbutter part of the story where he gets to be the face of depression amusingly so. A Quick One, While He’s Away sets up the second half of the season so well with the introduction of the brightest spot of this season – Paige Sinclair! This pig-faced reporter speaks so quickly, has a great banter and is consistently entertaining to follow, instantly reminding you of the many great screwball comedy creations.
Intermediate Scene Study w/ BoJack Horseman is a terrific episode that pulls the rug right beneath your feet by making you feel that this poor horse is going to be okay after all with these newly introduced, successful acting classes, but eventually he gets the news, and it’s all going downhill from here. Hollyhock got a good role here, and their distance was so well covered.

Good Damage is a good episode that continues to set in motion the impending doom of the protagonist. Sunk Cost and All That features such a terrific dialogue exchange between the main cast where BoJack finally admits everything to them. I found the conversation electric, and in particular the emphasis on what a great friendship Carolyn and him share was so touching.
Xerox of a Xerox is where all of it happens. The interview where he finally confesses everything, but then the interviewer decides to have another go and there she becomes more brutal and utterly destroys him. It was a devastating, but detailed showcase episode which truly gets how these interviews and the journalist/talk show host/actor dynamic work.
The Horny Unicorn and Angela are both not all that important, somewhat weak episodes, which is annoying this late in the game. But the last two are great. The View from Halfway Down has BoJack be on the edge of life and death, and he ends up in this limbo where he talks to all of his diseased relatives and friends. These conversations are deep, and the episode makes use of its animated format to give us an otherworldly, literally, experience.

Nice While It Lasted is a tremendous finale, truly one of the best episodes of the entire show. It gives us a wonderful reunion between all characters as he gets to have a great moment with everyone. The one with Carolyn is incredibly moving, and the ending with Diane is incredibly powerful and poignant. This is a very pensive conclusion to a somber season.
The sixth season of BoJack Horseman is one of the best. It is rarely comedic, but it succeeds superbly as a somber, deep and complex drama. Some episodes here are truly exceptional. As a result, the entire show ended on a high note, and it was a great choice to have this many seasons. Six is not too much and not too few, but just enough for this very well thought out, complex story.
Worst Episodes: The Horny Unicorn and Angela.
Best Episodes: Surprise!, Sink Cost and All That, Xerox of a Xerox and Nice While It Lasted.
