Big House Bunny (1950)
Big House Bunny Review
Big House Bunny is a 1950 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is such an entertaining flick.
Bugs Bunny is imprisoned and his ward is Yosemite Sam who is called differently here for some reason. Eventually, Bugs fools him and switches roles with him so that the poor guy becomes a prisoner. Let’s first state the negatives. I did not like the inclusion of catchphrases from the radio programs of the forties as that did not fit the film and made it sound dated. And also that finale was not the funniest.
But everything else here is terrific. I loved both of the characters as they fitted their roles like a glove. I loved the bunny’s manipulations, and Sam’s frustrations were so funny to follow. The animation is great, and the setting is utilized to the fullest degree. It should have been a longer film, but the pacing is fast and the film is thus hugely entertaining. A couple of escape scenes here are hilarious.
Big House Bunny has its problems, but it’s overall a funny, incredibly entertaining Bugs/Sam vehicle which utilizes on its premise and setting superbly.
