Bewitched Bunny (1954)
Bewitched Bunny Review
Bewitched Bunny is a 1954 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a terrific short.
Disguised as a truant officer, Bugs attempts to rescue Hansel and Gretel from Witch Hazel, who plans to cook him for her dinner. This is the introduction to Witch Hazel, and as a debut, it’s truly excellent. The movie is short and rushed for sure and the animation is far from amazing, but the plot is very strong and the fairy tale references are fantastic with the Prince Charming cameo being hilarious.
As for Hazel, she is so great. The design is instantly memorable, especially the darker coloring of her clothes, but her crackling laughing and overall very competent actions make her a tough, wonderful new foil for Bugs, who is also funny here. The last line of his may be deemed sexist by those horrendous SJWs devoid of humor, but to me it was a hilarious finale perfectly in line with his personality.
Bewitched Bunny is a very strong movie that introduces Witch Hazel wonderfully. The storyline is great and the ending is so funny.
