Betty Boop’s Hallowe’en Party Review

Betty Boop’s Hallowe’en Party is a 1933 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very disappointing short.

Betty Boop hosts a Halloween party with a few uninvited guests. My main issue with this short is its lack of any truly memorable gags. Even the characters are not memorable here with Betty herself fading to the background in her own movie. For a movie about Halloween, it is surprisingly lacking in atmosphere, though it has its sporadic moments of well crafted imagery.

The animation is pretty good, though hardly as outstanding as in some of the best entries in the series. Although the jazz music was missing here, the score was still excellent as we got to hear Betty’s theme number repeated throughout this short, which was an interesting choice. I just wish that its plot was stronger.

Betty Boop’s Hallowe’en Party has a strong score and it has its moments, but for the most part it lacked the truly memorable imagery and/or gags.

My Rating – 3.3
