Betty Boop with Henry, the Funniest Living American (1935)
Betty Boop with Henry, the Funniest Living American Review
Betty Boop with Henry, the Funniest Living American is a 1935 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very weak short.
Henry, comic strip character, gets a job at Betty Boop’s pet store. The only good thing about this one is the pet store as the setting, which was very well utilized and it made for an endearing watch. The Pudgy scenes were also cute. However, why is Pudgy in the store being sold was never explained and it came across as a major inconsistency to the overall series.
But the biggest issue here was the Henry character. The very pompous title of the short would suggest that he is the funniest thing alive, but he is not. Not only is he not funny, but they don’t even try to make him funny, which was so odd. He is apparently a comic book character from the early thirties, but he did not fit well with Betty herself, making for a very unfortunate choice for a movie.
