Betty Boop and Grampy Review

Betty Boop and Grampy Review

Betty Boop and Grampy is a 1935 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very thin, but fun flick.

Betty Boop and some friends go to Grampy’s house for a party. This is not a great short as it is pretty much plotless. We have a party here with this older guy named Grampy, and he is a lot of fun with great moves on the dancing floor, but ultimately he needed more context as a character. The flick also was in desperate need of more gags and memorable scenarios.

But the reason why I mostly liked it lies in its fun score that is so catchy and energetic that it seems to be inviting you to dance along with them. The joyous energy of everybody in this house and a couple of memorable dance sequences pleasantly reminded me The Silly Song from Disney’s ‘Snow White’. I just wished that it was funnier as well.

Betty Boop and Grampy has a terrific score and an energetic tone to it, but it needed better characterization, plot and humor.

My Rating – 3.5
