Bee on Guard Review

Bee on Guard Review

Bee on Guard is a 1951 animated short film produced by Disney. It’s a pretty weak flick.

Donald sees bees in his garden and follows them to the hive for honey. The bee guarding the hive won’t let him through, so Donald dresses up as a bee. This is yet another Donald Duck cartoon where he battles a persistent bee or bees in this instance. I did not quite care for this one to be honest. This formula worked before to a large extent, but here it largely did not work.

Visually, this is a splendid film. It was so well animated, shot and voiced. The sound is great too. But I found the action overwhelming and the humor lacking. There were so many poorly edited scenes that constantly change perspectives between the characters, leading to a lot of poorly constructed mayhem. It’s an ambitious film, but one that did not quite work sadly.

Bee on Guard has a very good premise and strong animation, but poor editing and a lack of humor really diminished its impact.

My Rating – 3.4
