Bedtime for Sniffles (1940)
Bedtime for Sniffles Review
Bedtime for Sniffles is a 1940 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very slow entry.
Sniffles the mouse wants to go to sleep, but struggles infinitely and the film basically follows his various troubles and his eventual successful sleep. This is a very simplistic plot, but it works because we’ve all been there and I myself have troubles with falling asleep on a regular basis. That’s why I found the film relatable and Sniffles is as endearing and cute as ever.
However, the movie is insufferably slow and way too long. I got that it was slow from an artistic point of view and the film truly is artistic in animation and well utilized Christmas music, but still I was bored and I wanted at least some bits of action and gags in it. Again the film is very charming and an interesting, but overly sluggish experiment.
Bedtime for Sniffles is endearing and relatable, but way too slow to be enjoyed more.
