Bats in the Belfry Review

Bats in the Belfry Review

Bats in the Belfry is a 1960 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a very weak flick.

Woody Woodpecker bothers a wealthy man who has been diagnosed as allergic to noise. This is a very odd entry in the series that is solidly animated and featuring an interesting new character opposite Woody, but the plot is strange and not fitting the Woody character at all.

The movie also lacked the humorous scenes and gags that are needed for this series to properly flourish. The ending is pretty good, but the remainder of the movie did not fire on all cylinders and was all quite a forgettable affair. The dynamic between the two is solid, but not as impactful as I’d hoped it would.

Bats in the Belfry has solid animation and an interesting premise, but that story and this new character are still too strange for this series, and apart from its stellar ending, the rest of the movie failed to register laughs or excitement.

My Rating – 3.4
