Some may hate this movie for obvious reasons as it’s not serious as today’s superhero movies are, but as the first ever superhero film back in the sixties, it was bound to happen this way. I personally found its comedic approach quite intentional so I’ve had a blast with it as it made me laugh quite a lot and it was a great distraction from all the serious genre flicks that have been flooding the market these days.
So Batman and Robin must stop the rogue gallery of villains from taking over the world. The plot is slim, but still obviously faithful to the source material in characters and their personalities, though everything is extremely heightened in terms of comedy.
The characters are so amusing. Adam West fits the role well and I found him quite charming and memorable as Batman, but obviously I did not find him tough at all. As for Robin, he’s the usual sidekick Robin we’d come to expect from the character.
Catwoman is okay, but the decision to portray her disguised as a Russian journalist was too timely for the sixties. And the rest of the villains are just way too goofy to be taken seriously, but ultimately a lot of fun. The Joker isn’t good at all as he isn’t particularly crazy here, but The Penguin and The Riddler are quite entertaining.
This Batman movie is a curiosity that exists very much out of time as the Bond movies from the sixties were not comedic, but quite serious. Although it made the movie difficult to buy in terms of a pure superhero action film as none of it felt dangerous or exciting, in terms of comedy it’s an absolute blast.

The gadgets are hilarious, the special effects even more so and the action is ludicrous as just the way they run is so funny and stupid, not to mention the fighting itself. The dialogue is beyond silly with some one-liners that are so ridiculously stupid that they made me laugh a lot. It’s an extremely campy movie and although I usually don’t like that, here I really liked it as the movie is goofy and endearing in its own way.
The 1966 Batman flick is absolutely hilarious and intentionally so as it’s conceived as a comedy. Though stupid in its character depictions, dialogue and especially the silly action, I found that nonetheless highly entertaining and ultimately charming in its own right. Some one-liners here are so ridiculous and just so funny whereas the action is beyond campy. It truly is a one of a kind oddity.
