Bars and Stripes Forever (1939)
Bars and Stripes Forever Review
Bars and Stripes Forever is a 1939 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid short.
It revolves around prison and it follows a bunch of prisoners interacting with each other in funny and amusing ways. So the film is definitely better than most previous Merry Melodies from this year mostly because it is more amusing and better crafted overall with terrific, polished and appealing animation.
But the score is forgettable and most of the action and humor are lacking in terms of strength. The film is ultimately not as good as it should have been or should I say not as great as it could have easily been great with better direction and more effort. It is never particularly funny and it is somewhat slow and overlong.
Bars and Stripes Forever is very well animated and sometimes amusing, but mostly not particularly funny and lacking in action and energy.
