Ballyhooey

Ballyhooey Review

Ballyhooey is a 1960 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a very good flick.

Woody Woodpecker tries to watch his favorite TV quiz show, which is constantly interrupted by commercials. This was a return to form for this series as it delivered what we love about these shorts – Woody getting angry and crazy. The fact that they made a cartoon about the annoying ads in 1960 is incredible and it still is relatable to this day.

Woody being so pressed with these ads made for such a fun cartoon. The highlight is the ending that was cartoony in its physics that made no sense and was just perfect. The rest of the gags were repetitive and not as inventive, but the flick flies by how entertaining it is and its concept is undeniably superb.

Ballyhooey isn’t a great short, but it’s a very good one thanks a strong concept well executed, a great final gag and Woody being so memorable and fun.

My Rating – 3.9
