Annabelle Comes Home Movie Review
Annabelle Comes Home is a 2019 horror film directed by Gary Dauberman and starring Mckenna Grace. It’s an okay flick which should have been much better.

“There is a lot of evil in this room.
But you know what I actually like about it?
All the evil in here reminds me of
all the good that’s out there“

This sequel comes just in the middle when it comes to this trilogy. It’s nowhere near as mediocre as the first flick was, but it’s also infinitely inferior to the greatness that is the underrated ‘Creation’. This one is passable, ranging at times to solid territory.
The main problem this movie never overcame is a lack of any plot to it. It entirely relies on action scenes and jump scares as a big selling point and it’s quite successful at that when it comes to the entertainment factor which is in this instance huge, but still any film needs a good story and this one is as hollow as you can get.
It’s problematic how they did not explain any of these occurrences. There are a bunch of monsters in this movie and appearances, and all are controlled somehow by Annabelle, but I wanted more backstories for each creature as well as character. And the appearance of a werewolf was beyond arbitrary and stupid.
The characters are also very slightly developed and not much is known about them, though admittedly all of the young actresses did such a good job and they seemed like genuinely decent people so I liked them as a group ultimately, though I wanted much more. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga got a couple of sequences here, but not enough as they deserve so much more.
Annabelle Comes Home is competently made across the board. Though the dialogue and scripting are rather bad and the characterization is mediocre, the horror department itself is excellent here and it’s enough to recommend it to anyone for that matter, especially the genre enthusiasts.

The film is constant action after action in its second half which I mostly liked as that action was tremendously entertaining and rather creepy at times. Some of it was obvious and repetitive, but the set-ups for the scares were all great and the level to detail remains the most impressive part of the Conjuring universe. That piano sequence definitely scared me, I have to commend them for that amazing moment.
Annabelle Comes Home has no plot to it whatsoever. The characterization and dialogue are weak, and we do not get any backstories for any character or creature which was very frustrating. The appearance of a werewolf in this film was ridiculous and honestly egregious. But it works in the horror department as all of those sequences are per usual very well executed and hugely entertaining with the highlight being that amazing piano sequence which really creeped me out. It’s consequently much weaker than its predecessor, but an improvement upon the first flick.
