And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street (1944)
And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street Review
And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street is a 1944 animated short film directed by George Pal. It’s an okay short.
The film follows one boy and his imagination going wild as he describes this titular street. This is a story based on a Dr. Seuss book, and for his level of skills, I was disappointed in this one. Maybe they adapted it weakly, but the storytelling itself is far from great. It’s rather slight, and the kind of narrative storytelling that I am never a fan of.
But it does paint a nice picture, and it surely benefits from some terrific technical aspects, mostly the stop-motion animation which is wonderfully charming and old-fashioned. The attention to detail is meticulous, and the film is very immersive in that area. I just wish the script was better.
And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street is a flawed Oscar nominee that looks phenomenal, but lacks plotwise.
