Alice’s Egg Plant is a 1925 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a disturbing short.

Julius, the boss of Alice’s chicken farm, has to find a way to deliver 5000 eggs when the hens go on strike. This Alice short has Dawn O’Day in the main role and this is the only short in the series starring her. I found her to be okay, though Alice is not well utilized here.

There is this rather amusing plot about these hens going on a strike. The gags with the hens are okay and the movie with the added sound is quite amusing. However, there is the problem of this anti-union sentiment that Walt included. Seeing Alice and Julius on the villainous side was so sad and creepy.

Alice’s Egg Plant has good animation and an interesting premise, but the anti-union messaging here was very problematic.
