Alice Wins the Derby is a 1925 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s an okay short.

Alice, Julius and one other character are in a combined auto/horse race. This movie should have been much better than it ended up being. The car racing sport is ripe for cartoons and this movie had its moments for sure, but it also failed to be wholly entertaining and nowhere near as kinetic as you’d hope.

Alice is at least here, but Julius once again steals the show. The other character is a one-off and I liked how everybody raced to the fullest. Some of the gags and action moments are fine, but then again the inventiveness is almost non-existent in the execution of most of these gags. The animation is also just serviceable.

Alice Wins the Derby has a solid premise and it is reasonably diverting, but it lacked truly memorable gags and strong animation.
