Alice Gets in Dutch (1924)
Alice Gets in Dutch Review
Alice Gets in Dutch is a 1924 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a solid short.
Alice misbehaves in school and is forced to sit in the corner. She falls asleep and dreams, but schoolwork intrudes even into her dreams. Alice dreams of dancing dogs and donkeys until her fun is interrupted by three walking schoolbooks. This is not among the best Alice Comedies, but it is not among the worst ones either. It is perfectly solid, though it has its flaws.
The live-action segments were inferior this time around. Alice was not well incorporated into the animated segments at all as she looked too light, almost disappearing into the background. The highlight, though, is all the animated action and solid gags with the final ink one being particularly well executed. It’s a sweet short that is reasonably diverting.
