After the Ball

After the Ball Review

After the Ball is a 1956 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty flawed short.

Woody is the size of Tom Thumb and he has to live inside a bowling ball. This is the premise behind this rather forgettable short that is beautifully animated for sure, but it left a lot to be desired in terms of humor and scenarios. Woody is fun, but his adversary here was not all that memorable.

The setting is so well realized and a lot of ingenuity is found inside these bowling balls. Woody is a lot of fun here, but once again he was failed by an uninteresting adversary. These movies really need to have all characters working at their best to make for a stellar cartoon. Woody is not enough to counter his weaker antagonists.

After the Ball is very well animated and utilized in its setting, but weak in its supporting character and humor.

My Rating – 3.5
