A Very Merry Pooh Year Movie Review
A Very Merry Pooh Year is a 2002 direct-to-video animated family film from Disneytoon Studios. It’s a respectable effort for sure.

This movie surprised me as it is actually much better than some bigger Pooh films such as ‘The Tigger Movie’ for instance. This one is all about celebrating the holidays and it is very warm and sweet in its holiday spirit. The whole movie is very charming, albeit the overall plot is not only very slight, but also silly when you think about it.
The film is way too concerned with minute details such as decorating a tree and Rabbit having an argument with Tigger over stupid jingle bells etc. But there is one main story here and that one is very entertaining as it sees the crew switch personalities with one another, resulting in a crazy scenario where the humor shined the most in this entire picture.
Pooh is very sweet here and much less annoying and selfish than he can be in other movies. Eeyore is also very good, but this is all about Rabbit and Tigger as they have their big fight and end up becoming bigger friends in the process. I found their relationship wonderfully realized here, and I would like to see more of it in the future.
The animation here is pretty solid, but nothing particularly memorable. The character designs and everything looked good enough, but there wasn’t much artistry to be found anywhere in here. Though again, the holiday spirit was well transported to us through a colorful palette.

A Very Merry Pooh Year is also forgettable in other characters such as Piglet and Kanga, and Christopher Robin is also nowhere to be seen her conspicuously enough. The entire finale is very charming and sweet, but the beginning of the movie remains the slightest. The runtime is also too short, but it felt longer given its very slow pace and uneventful narrative. Still, some of those scenes felt very inviting and cozy that I ultimately liked what they were going for here.
A Very Merry Pooh Year is a very uneventful Disneytoon Studios flick. It lacks momentum and memorable storylines. The music is also weak. But the characters mostly got their moments to shine with Rabbit and Tigger having a very memorable, wonderfully developed subplot here. The entire movie is slight in plot, but very cozy and wonderful in its holiday spirit.
My Rating – 3.5
