A Gruesome Twosome (1945)
A Gruesome Twosome Review
A Gruesome Twosome is a 1945 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is an odd entry.
This is thankfully the last Tweety cartoon to not feature Sylvester and I say thankfully because the two are honestly inseparable. They can be apart, but for the most part those cartoons do not work as well. And this is one such example. I personally liked the animation here as the movie is surprisingly colorful and different in its character design which I all dug. And some of the action and humor was solid with the bee scene being very well pulled off.
But most of the cartoon is overly odd to its detriment. It is original, but not in the best way possible as the two cats aren’t the most memorable characters and the entire structure and pacing of the cartoon felt off to me. The energy was there, but the scenes felt weakly arranged and definitely oddly put together.
A Gruesome Twosome is interestingly animated and authentic, but mostly overly odd and with an unappealing structure to it.
