Knuckles Review
Knuckles is an action comedy miniseries that premiered in 2024 on Paramount+. It’s a pretty solid and fun show, but one that was slight in plot and lacking in Knuckles scenes.

I do not make jokes… I make warriors“

It follows Knuckles the Echidna as he trains deputy sheriff Wade Whipple in the ways of the Echidna warrior. This is the first spin-off show that sprung from the recent Sonic movies and it’s a fine one. I’d honestly expected worse going in, but the end result is perfectly serviceable, though it still could have been better.
The main issue that this show had is the overreliance on the Wade character. The second half of the miniseries almost entirely discarded Knuckles in favor of Wade, which was very disappointing given that the show was named Knuckles after all. It was an expected development given its budgetary constraints, but it was still annoying to witness.
With that being said, I still liked Wade quite a bit. Adam Pally was actually very good in the role and I found him to be charismatic and naturally funny in his line delivery, body language and facial expressions. He’s the type of character that kids naturally gravitate toward and I can easily see myself absolutely adoring this show as a young boy as they are the prime demographic for this.
Idris Elba’s Knuckles is as enjoyable as ever and some of his lines made me chuckle. The first half focusing on him was definitely stronger while the second half focused less on him and his very strong friendship with Wade in favor of other less interesting characters. All of the villains were quite mediocre and dull and I wished that the series had better antagonists and more interesting plot scenarios. Knuckles looks good and it’s well scored, but it did not have the most spectacular action scenes as it relied too heavily on humor instead.

Knuckles is a pretty solid miniseries that is best suited for kids and Sonic fans. Although the second half focused way more on Wade than Knuckles, I still really liked Wade and I found him to be quite funny while Knuckles was as endearing as ever. The antagonists were quite mediocre and the overall plot slight, but the humor was pretty good, the main friendship was great and the show had a lot of heart. The show started on such a good note that its second half came across as a big disappointment.
Worst Episode: Reno, Baby.
Best Episode: The Warrior.
