Trick or Treat Review

Trick or Treat Review

Trick or Treat is a 1952 animated short film produced by Disney. It’s a pretty strange flick.

On Halloween night, Donald isn’t willing to give his nephews candy, so Witch Hazel offers her help to teach Donald a lesson. What even is this movie? I thought Witch Hazel was the character from Looney Tunes, but I guess Disney copied her entirely for their own movie. The result is an odd flick that never felt like a proper Donald Duck short.

With that being said, the movie still worked to a degree. That’s because the animation is very strong and colorful, and the world building is terrific. The nephews were fun here, the movie’s energy is commendable, and its color palette is soothing to the eyes. I loved the magic utilized, and I found the character dynamics to be quite entertaining, but again it felt too different.

Trick or Treat is a Halloween-inspired Donald Duck short that is so well made and atmospheric, but simply too different from other cartoons at the end of the day.

My Rating – 3.5
