Soup’s On Review

Soup’s On Review

Soup’s On is a 1948 animated short film produced by Disney. It is a very strong entry in the series.

Donald cooks dinner for himself and his nephews, but sends them to their room without dinner because they haven’t washed up after playing in the mud. This is one of those movies where the nephews are simply horrible toward their uncle and I find that this dynamic between the four works best. The ending is somewhat inferior to the rest of the picture, but otherwise the storyline is excellent, the characterization is terrific and the humorous scenarios worked so well.

The highlight of this flick is clearly the sequence where the mischievous ducks trick Donald into thinking that he has died and become an angel. That entire section was perfectly executed, very clever and oh so hilarious. The nephews are downright evil in this short while poor Donald is the endearing and troubled hero. It is very easy to root for him here.

Soup’s On is a well animated, entertaining and very funny Donald Duck movie that features one incredible scenario and the nephews at their most devious.

My Rating – 4.1
