Chief Charlie Horse Review

Chief Charlie Horse Review

Chief Charlie Horse is a 1956 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty weak flick.

Woody Woodpecker is working as a woodcarver when the outlaw, Chief Charley Horse, being pursued by the sheriff, ducks into Woody’s shop. The sheriff also arrives and there is much confusion on the premises before Woody gets the reward for capturing the chief. I did not care for this short because of obvious reasons – its dated nature and boring scenarios.

The movie features lackluster animation and Native American characters that are uninteresting and forgettable. The movie is racist for sure, but it’s also terribly uninteresting in its overall storyline and gags that are wholly uninspired. Woody being a woodcarver was a fun development and he was reliably amusing, but that’s pretty much it in this weak installment.

Chief Charlie Horse has a memorable Woody, but weak plot, dated Native American depictions and forgettable gags.

My Rating – 3
