Straight Shooters Review

Straight Shooters Review

Straight Shooters is a 1947 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a solid entry.

Donald runs a shooting gallery at the carnival. When his nephews try their luck, it turns out that Donald does not stop cheating the game. Having been deceived, they also try to deceive his uncle. This is one of those movies where the nephews are pitted against their mischievous uncle and the results are only okay. I expected more from this usually stellar premise.

The animation is solid and I loved how the setting was used for some imaginative gags. The Ramesses gag was particularly effective and it came out of nowhere. The nephews were quite clever here and Donald himself was especially devious. I just wished that the cartoon had more of those smart sequences as the majority were only serviceable.

Straight Shooters has some stellar gags, but it needed more of them overall. It’s a pretty solid, but not great short.

My Rating – 3.7
