Lighthouse Keeping Review

Lighthouse Keeping Review

Lighthouse Keeping is a 1946 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is one of the weaker entries in the series.

Donald is a lighthouse keeper, whose light shines on a sleeping pelican, who gets angry and goes into the lighthouse to try to put out the light, which leads to a constant fight between Donald and him. This is one of those repetitive shorts where the majority of the runtime is devoted to one scenario and nothing else. The fight between the two was at first fun, but later it became tiresome.

The setting was intriguing here and I liked to see Donald having a new profession. But the animation in the version that I watched was rather subpar, though that may be the quality issue and not the problem of the movie. The film made use of its setting solidly, but much more could have been done with both characters. More humor was needed too.

Lighthouse Keeping is fun at first, but eventually it became tiresome. It’s a rather forgettable Donald Duck short.

My Rating – 3.5
