Wet Paint Review

Wet Paint Review

Wet Paint is a 1946 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is such a charming flick.

Donald repaints his car, but has trouble with a little bird that constantly makes the car dirty. Eventually, it is revealed that the bird was just trying to make a nest for her babies in that incredibly endearing final sequence where Donald showed a lot of his inherent compassion and humanity. The best shorts center on his sweet nature and not just his anger, which is exactly what they did here.

The movie is very well animated and most of the gags worked. None of them were particularly funny to be honest, but they got a lot of scenarios out of a simple premise with a bird making Donald’s car dirty. The use of different colors was particularly strong here. The bird is super cute and Donald was a lot of fun when he was getting angry. The second half, though, is much more engaging and more inspired than the first one.

Wet Paint has a simple premise, but very good execution. It looks great, it has an adorable little bird in it and the final sequence is immensely endearing.
