Real Gone Woody Review

Real Gone Woody Review

Real Gone Woody is a 1954 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty odd flick.

Woody invites Winnie Woodpecker to a sock hop, but some other bird wants to be with her too, and they fight over her. This bird isn’t Buzz at all, but he seemed like a much younger and smaller version of him, so it was very strange to watch him. The character felt underdeveloped and forgettable. Winnie is also underutilized as this love interest that had never been present before in a Woody Woodpecker short.

So yes, this is a strange cartoon. Thankfully, it somewhat worked thanks to the memorable Woody and his kinetic energy. The pacing is quite strong, some of the gags were pretty good and the movie flowed well. The animation is solid too. It’s an amusing cartoon that becomes better as it goes along, but it needed better characterization overall.

Real Gone Woody has an odd premise, but solid execution. Woody is great here, but others were subpar and forgettable.

My Rating – 3.5
