Destination Meatball Review

Destination Meatball Review

Destination Meatball is a 1951 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a solid flick.

Woody wants to eat, but Buzz jacked up his food prices way too much. Eventually, he becomes invisible and he goes on to steal all of his food. These invisibility ink cartoons were dime a dozen back then, so this one lacked originality. The second half felt markedly different from the first and I honestly preferred the former.

The prices gags worked for me and were quite clever. Buzz was great here. The second half powered up Woody too much so that Buzz did not stand a chance, which led to an uneven dynamic. Still, the final sequence was a lot of fun and the lack of dialogue worked in this instance. The animation is excellent.

Destination Meatball is uneven in plot and pacing, but mostly very amusing. The beginning and ending were the highlights.

My Rating – 3.8
