The Woody Woodpecker Polka Review

The Woody Woodpecker Polka Review

The Woody Woodpecker Polka is a 1951 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty good flick.

For a chance at free food at a barn dance, Woody dresses as a girl to fool ticket taker Wally Walrus. Whenever Woody does cross-dressing, I am having a blast watching him. He’s not exactly like Bugs Bunny as he would go out of his way to not be kissed by a man whom he tries to fool. He is ugly in a hilarious way and how poorly he dresses is very funny.

The highlight here was that sequence where he let Wally kiss different objects. The final moment was a lot of fun too and it ended the short very well. The animation is stellar and the score is naturally fantastic. The polka dancing fitted with the Woody Woodpecker formula surprisingly well. I just wished that the first half was more engaging and better paced as the second half is miles better.

The Woody Woodpecker Polka has a weaker first half, but a stellar second one. The music is great and Woody is so funny here.

My Rating – 4
