Early to Bed Review

Early to Bed is a 1941 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a very good short.

Donald spends the night unable to sleep due to various reasons. First, a clock drives him insane. Then, his spring bed shuts him up and continues to infuriate him through the rest of the cartoon. My only issue here is that for a reasonably long short the movie isn’t varied in gags and situations. The spring bed section took out the majority of its runtime.

With that being said, I still loved that section. The gags were clever and memorable and Donald was at his best here. His frustrations were so entertaining, his facial expressions priceless and some of his lines made me laugh out loud. The animation is stellar, especially of the bed and the duck himself. The highlight gag was the one with the lamp. That one was ingenious.

Early to Bed is one of the better Donald Duck shorts where he is tormented by regular objects and situations. It’s so well done and so much fun.

My Rating – 4.1
