Officer Duck Review

Officer Duck is a 1939 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a pretty odd flick.

Donald is a police officer who must arrest the criminal Tiny Tom, who is basically Pete in disguise. Donald dons a baby costume and behaves as such in order to apprehend him. This led to a very weird dynamic where he was the baby and Pete was his father figure. This worked to a certain degree, but eventually it became repetitious.

My main problem with this movie is the introduction of Pete into this universe. Pete is a best fit with Mickey and not really with Donald as the duck is at his best when he is annoyed with small creatures or his nephews than when he has a straight-up villain to fight with. The movie is fun and amusing at times while benefitting from Pete’s memorable personality and Donald’s entertaining baby expressions, but it wasn’t nearly as hilarious as it thinks it is.

Officer Duck is an odd Donald Duck cartoon where he was paired with Pete to middling results. It’s an amusing cartoon at first, but then it became repetitive.

My Rating – 3.7
