Mask-A-Raid is a 1931 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.

Betty Boop is queen of the Masquerade Ball where, among other antics, Bimbo and a lecherous old man vie for her affections. This is one of the most sex-obsessed movies in the series. This is where we see not only Bimbo, but also this disgusting old man be after Betty as they are both so evidently into her that they would fight for her.

The movie isn’t among the very best of the series as it lacked the ingenuity and inventiveness of the best Talkartoons, but it is among the most entertaining entries given that the dialogue is so funny and the characters so amusing. The animation and score are pretty good, but this is all about that witty dialogue.

Mask-A-Raid is a flawed, but very funny cartoon that features some of the best and most amusing dialogue in this series. It’s the first cartoon where Betty was entirely human.
