Buzzy Boop (1938)
Buzzy Boop Review
Buzzy Boop is a 1938 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty solid cartoon.
Betty’s young cousin, Buzzy, takes the train to visit Betty. Buzzy is this very mischievous and tomboyish girl who only physically resembles Betty, but is otherwise very different from her. I liked that idea, but the movie itself did not quite capture my attention as Buzzy’s misadventures got repetitive pretty quickly.
Though undeniably well made, Buzzy Boop isn’t particularly funny and/or memorable. It benefits from a well crafted and clearly defined character that only got two movies for her name. She is a lot of fun and her interactions on the train and later with the boys were quite amusing. I just wished for more Betty and more humor.
