Cool Cat (1967)
Cool Cat Review
Cool Cat is a 1967 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty odd short.
English big game hunter, Colonel Rimfire, inside a mechanical elephant hunts Cool Cat the tiger. This movie was important as it marked a huge change for the Warner Bros. animation series. Previously focusing for years on the exploits of Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales, now the series shifted into new territory by introducing new characters. The results are weak once again and this is undeniably not a good movie, but I honestly liked it because it was at least original.
First off, let’s just say that Cool Cat is not the greatest of Looney Tunes creations, that goes without saying. Larry Storch was actually very good in the role as his voice was different and unique for the series, but the character was unoriginal as he in his design was a literal copy of ‘Pink Panther’, just with different colors of his fur. The entire movie oddly tried to copy the formula of the aforementioned cartoon series, which it did not succeed at, but I still liked that they tried it as I love this unique atmosphere and style of animation. The plot is only okay, but the flick is quite entertaining and the dynamic between the colonel and Cool Cat was a lot of fun, though the ending was mediocre.
