Banty Raids (1963)
Banty Raids Review
Banty Raids is a 1963 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty good cartoon.
A horny hipster rooster, attracted to the hens in Foghorn Leghorn’s barnyard, disguises himself as a baby foundling on Foghorn’s doorstep. Foghorn adopts the girl-crazy rooster as his son, giving him access to all the chickens on the farm. This sidekick character is insufferable, there is no getting around that. His constant singing and hipness made him quite annoying. However, the movie still works because of its plot and humor.
Foghorn Leghorn is very funny here and Barnyard Dawg is also wonderfully used. The humorous gags and lines of dialogue abound in this fun flick that is particularly memorable in its final gag that was a superb reference to ‘Some Like It Hot’ that fit like a glove with these characters. The breezy energy to the movie made it quite fun and exuberant while the animation is also quite good.
