Tintin and the Temple of the Sun is a 1969 Belgian animated adventure film. It’s a very good adaptation of its source material.
Tintin and his motley group of friends go to Peru to save some archaeologists trapped by an Inca curse. But before they can complete their mission, they are condemned to death for their misdemeanors. This movie was a co-production between the countries of Belgium, France and Luxembourg and it adapts two famous stories from the comic-book series.

I grew up watching the Tintin comics and I found the 2011 Spielberg movie frustrating. It resembled nothing that I loved from the series itself. This flick, however, is different. This was such a faithful adaptation that I was quite enamored by it.
The storyline obviously has its problematic elements. The treatment of the South American natives is troublesome to say the least. It was antiquated and racist. But that is to be expected from an older movie, so I need to give them some slack for it.
But the princess character is terrific and the sole female character in the movie that was actually well developed. The policemen characters are also very good. They function as wonderful comic-reliefs. But of course the highlights are Tintin and Captain Haddock. Their friendship is phenomenally realized and the captain is so endearing. He steals the show as he always does in every story from this series.
Temple of the Sun is at its best in the adventurous scenes. The mountain trekking scenes are fantastic. I loved the depiction of the Inca Empire and the mythology was excellent here, but the problem here is that the movie adapts two books, resulting in one being utterly rushed in that first act.

The animation is also only serviceable. The character designs are excellent, but the style is only okay, certainly seeming a bit too cheap when compared to other feature films of the period. The score is great as was the voice acting and the dialogue. The humor is also wonderful. But I wish that the runtime was longer as 77 minutes was too short for me personally.
