Don’t Axe Me (1958)
Don’t Axe Me Review
Don’t Axe Me is a 1958 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid cartoon.
This is another odd entry where Elmer is after Daffy to make roast duck for his wife. That was a strange premise and seeing Elmer settled with a wife was also quite weird. The movie certainly lacks the usually strong Daffy shenanigans and killer one-liners, but it’s still solid enough with good animation and very well executed gags.
I loved that entire sequence with the dog trying to convince the woman to ask for roast duck. That was unexpected and his frustrations with the wife failing to understand him was hilarious to witness. The dog actually stole the show from the main stars, but Daffy is still screwy enough while Elmer is quite memorable in this short.
Don’t Axe Me lacks a better storyline, but the gags are solid and the animation is quite good.
My Rating – 3.7
