Tweety and the Beanstalk Review

Tweety and the Beanstalk is a 1957 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, but flawed entry in the series.

This is yet another Warner Bros. cartoon parody of Jack and the Beanstalk, but it’s not a particularly authentic nor successful one. My main issue here was that they never went anywhere with it, especially with that excellent idea of Tweety being so big that he is almost the same size as Sylvester himself. Never did that initial surprise pay off further down the line. Also, the ending was only serviceable with the falling down the beanstalk being rather predictable.

But I still adored Tweety here and some lines, especially the last one, were more unique than usual for this cute yellow bird fellow. The animation is excellent and the castle looked stupendous. The giant is also solidly utilized, but he needed a bit more screen time. The first scenes of arriving in this sky place were the best and most imaginative ones for sure.

The second half of Tweety and the Beanstalk is somewhat predictable and disappointing, but the first half is very imaginative and charming.
