Well, it’s once again a midquel to be precise as it happens right in the middle of the first movie’s storyline. The main reason why this movie infuriated me lies in its approach. It just tries to be this very annoying country music musical that betrays everything the first movie stands for.
The original is an absolute classic and one of Disney’s most underrated animated movies. But it was a strong family drama that was hugely emotional while this one is a bland musical that is never moving at all, sacrificing true emotion for bland scenes that are supposed to inspire kids.
Why is Copper suddenly a singer? And why would you include music so heavily in this particular franchise? It’s mind-boggling to me and it ranks among the worst decisions ever done by this mediocre studio. I found all of the other new characters either forgettable or downright annoying while only Tod is sweet per usual. Some of the scenes between the two are endearing, but again the true friendship that the two have is not that much present here.
The Fox and the Hound 2 has a very weak soundtrack, and that was the final nail in the coffin for its quality, having in mind that it is this very loud musical. None of the songs appealed to me in the slightest as I am not a country music fan. I found the original film’s soundtrack infinitely better, even if that one is also far from iconic.

The animation is the only good thing about this tired midquel. The characters all look as they are supposed to look and the overall palette to the movie is colorful and quite polished. The same praise should be directed toward the voice acting as everybody really did a nice job as all characters sound as they are supposed to sound. But what characters? This movie literally refused to bring back all of the classic characters from its predecessor, again rendering its existence questionable.
