Top Ten One Piece Characters
One Piece is populated by so many lovable characters that ranking them is rather difficult as they are all superb as a group and individually. This anime is probably at its best in terms of character development, so let’s see who are the ten best of its creations.
10. Nico Robin
Nico Robin joined the crew in the Alabasta Arc and from then on she was an invaluable part of the team. Although her loyalties were questionable at first, her formidable spirit was always there to help everybody in need. She is the second great female character here.
9. Arlong
The villains in One Piece are usually amazing and Arlong is one of them. His design is crazy as are all the designs on this show, but he was a genuinely powerful, badass villain who proved to be a big obstacle for Luffy and the gang. His arc with Nami was also terrific.
8. Roronoa Zoro
There is no denying the coolness factor to this character because, yes, Zoro is very badass. He is an important, great part of the team, but this low ranking is due to his overly heroic, not as flawed personality, and I personally gravitate toward more complex heroes.
7. Sanji
Although his culinary adventures surely belong to the show’s many detours, they were still highly entertaining. Sanji is such a goofy sidekick whose obsession with Nami is hilarious and so are his amazing, playful interactions with the rest of the gang.
6. Crocodile
Crocodile is fantastic. This villain made Alabasta Saga as great as it is. It was difficult to be more memorable and even more powerful than Arlong, but he did it and the fights that he had with Luffy were all incredible. The way they all pronounced his name was always funny to me.
5. Enel
Sky Island Saga is excellent and very imaginative, but the villainous center of it is this God-like villain who posed the worst, most demanding threat to our heroes probably of them all. Enel looks cool, is tough and many of his signature power moves are iconic.
4. Usopp
The main goofball of the team, Usopp is a guy whom you just can’t help but love. I appreciated all of his arcs, his interactions with the rest of the team are golden and his positive, but also anxious outlook on everything was quite memorable as was his ridiculously large nose.
3. Monkey D. Luffy
The main protagonist of One Piece is Monkey D. Luffy. He is your typical anime hero reminiscent of Goku and Naruto in some ways, but his powers are unique to him alone as is his goofiness. He has a lot of heart and is always a delight.
2. Nami
Nami is the only really important female character that is among the best developed characters overall on the show. Her mapping skills are impressive, she is always confident and resolute, her relationships with others are excellent and she’s just a complex character that really works.
1. Tony Tony Chopper
One Piece is to me a comedy above all else. As such, it is only natural to put a comedic character first on the list. Chopper is an invaluable part of the team as this lovable, goofy furball of a bear who is always energetic, scared, but also daring and helpful when he needs to be. His interactions with Luffy and Usopp are simply stupendous and he’s just adorable in his design.
