Pink Sphinx (1968)
Pink Sphinx is a 1968 animated short film from the Pink Panther series.
The Pink Panther goes searching for a hidden Egyptian tomb with his camel. I loved the Egyptian setting naturally, and that last sequence was so quick, yet so effective. The tomb looked amazing and intriguing, plus the twist with the shape-shifting was a lot of fun. I wish more time could have been spent there.
Yes, unfortunately most of the film is not in the tomb, which was a bad choice. And the runtime is too short for such a great concept episode. But Pink is terrific here, and his crazy camel was hugely amusing in its facial expressions in particular. The animation is also lovely with the color palette being particularly beautiful. The score is also suitably ancient and different.
Pink Sphinx has an overly short runtime and not enough of the tomb imagery, but the camel is a lot of fun and that ending is superb.
