The Wearing of the Green (1951)
The Wearing of the Green Review
The Wearing of the Green is a 1951 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very memorable flick.
Porky is in Ireland, and he has to confront two very persistent leprechauns. First and foremost, this is such an authentic premise and setting as Ireland has never been portrayed before in a Looney Tunes short. The end result is a very specific, very original film which makes use of the color green, the shoes, these creatures and a pot of gold brilliantly.
The ending is nice and memorable while the beginning itself is slower. The mid part is the best with drug-like scenarios where Porky is being chased by these green leprechaun shoes. It resulted in a hugely artistic output with very authentic animation style and a great use of color. The leprechauns are fun whereas Porky Pig is excellent and very endearing in what is unfortunately his last solo outing in the series.
The Wearing of the Green is very artistic and it ultimately serves as an authentic send-off to Porky Pig solo adventures.
