Nothing but the Tooth (1948)
Nothing but the Tooth Review
Nothing but the Tooth is a 1948 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weak short.
Porky Pig is actually very good in this film as he’s at his best element – being all endearing and stuttering quite a lot. To me, he’s the best reason to see this movie and probably the only legitimately strong reason as the short is otherwise technically weak with unpolished animation to it.
The biggest problem I’ve had with it is of course its treatment of Native Americans. They are portrayed as crazy murderers who only scalp other people’s heads and do nothing else. This warmongering portrayal was atrocious and I do find it horrible that Americans continue to find the Warner Bros. shorts with black people more offensive than these Native American ones.
Nothing but the Tooth has terrific, endearing Porky at the center of it, but the short is otherwise stereotypical and uninspired.
